Citadel Canine Society

Monetary Donation | Article by: Cindy Cherry

All of Don Cherry’s proceeds from the sale of Simply Pets Liver Treats will go directly to Citadel Canine Society. These treats are sold exclusively at Ren’s Pet Depot.  They were chosen due to their prioritization of using shelter dogs to be train as PTSD service companion dogs.  They are given free of charge to military veterans and first responders.

These treats also honor and recognize Corporal Nathan Cirillo (1989-2014).  His love of dogs, especially his rescues  Jagger, Maya and Kaya, was this Foundation inspiration in recognizing Citadel’s choice to utilize dogs that need a home and purpose in life. This is in contrast to many service dog providers,  that breed  dogs ( even mixing purebreds!)  for the sole purpose to find that one special dog that has certain qualities they seek. Then all excess dogs that don’t meet their criteria are then adopted out or sold.  This may be true and sounds nice, but remember, for every adopted dog they breed, there are hundreds languishing and  waiting for their chance for a forever home.
